I went to drop off a rent check today and saw this guy as my travel companionI, Shelby Turner, and I were driving us away from my landlords’ office.  I shouted out, “Hey, you’re that guy who’s going to be on my radio program tonight!”

After a car-to-car talk, he asked if I could do him a favor and take a photo of him, his dog, and his truck with downtown Seattle and the Columbia building (including it’s adjacent buildings) in the background. We were on the street east of the Safeco Field™ parking lot®.

The photo never happened but instead he told us a story of why he does this thing he does, which is travel internationally and let people play the Piano that sits in the back of his truck. He made it clear that this was an experience and not a weird form of busking or having to do with feeding his ego. He speaks fast, he’s stoked to talk to you, he plays the piano well, he’s also stoked about what he’s been doing for a very long time.

I don’t remember if he said that he’s been doing this for 5 or 11 years. One of those two.

While Shelby and I were conversing with him, he told us to get in the back of the truck, play the piano, and he took photos of us doing so. I don’t play the piano but that’s okay. Shelby doesn’t either- we just play it. The piano man told us about how he wants and gets people to play the piano. It’s a cool secret you can hear if…

Better yet, come down to the station (2018 E. Union St) and play the piano. It should be a hoot.
